PARKsTALK
An exhibition of work by Linda Jane James. 28th May - 3rd June 2005.
In the first of a series of events planned for the summer to celebrate 21 years of the Small Mansion Arts Centre and to continue our support to local artists, Linda Jane James presents PARKsTALK. Linda graduated from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design with a first class honours degree in Fine Art, May 2004.
Using the photograph and text as the basis of her work, Linda takes a playful look at movement and activities within Gunnersbury Park. Through her work Linda sets out to explore her curiosity about everyday activities and traces of movement through space.
Blackdog Dance is a projection onto a specially made glitter ball inspired by the grandeur and history of the Small Mansion, once owned by the Rothschild family to entertain their guests. PARKsTALK, a short film and mixed media installation that looks at the lives and habits of squirrels in the park from the perspective of a fictional park security officer, and PARKsTALKpoetics, a series of photographic and text pieces inspired by spending time in the Japanese garden, using the photograph and text to create a new form of Haiku.
The work on show asks us to reflect on the unspoken dialogue within the park and to think about the role of the observer and the observed.
